Forrest,

You were asking about motors for canoes. I can't offer anything about the
motors themselves but could I put forward an idea for mounting. A number of
slimmer boats, those without squared sterns, and I'm thinking of racing boats
and such as the Devon yawl, have been seen with the motor mounted somewhere
along the side of the hull. A fold-out bracket would seem to be used
carrying the o/b motor at some point within reach of the helmsman. Best
would be a 360 deg swivelling motor as are many of the smaller ones. There
wouldn't be much directional control from the motor but what's the rudder for
anyway?

I can imagine the same idea being adopted on a sturdy canoe or a punt.
