For those interested... I took the time over weekend to test
my Minn Kota Endura 50 speed and range. Observations
made follow:

Test Conditions for Endura 50.

Test conducted on canal to ICW.
Average canal depth during test 12'
Wind speed 6 MPH

Distance from beginnning to end of canal - 1.1 miles
Round trip Sailable distance over which close hauled
reaching is possible = 1 mile
Average wind speed 8 MPH
Widest section of canal distance .5 mile
Canal width 500 ft.
Sailable distance on reach/run 1.1 mile
Sailable distance close reach .6 mile

Test of Minn Kota Endura 50 mounted in center stern position of 13' Sovereign
Island Express 1250 sailboat weighing 375 lbs. attached to EverStart Marine
starting Deep Cycle battery, Part # 29hdp-6, series 27, 875 cca, 205 min
reserve capacity.

Test performed before full tide swing.

Total distance traveled 2.69 miles per Garmin GPS 12
Throttle setting for test 5 (flat out)
Speed against current 3.3 mph average per Gps12
Slowest speed against current 1.9 MPH
Fastest speed against current 3.6 MPH
Speed with current 4.6 mph per Gps12

Maximum speed with tester sitting in bow (no current)
4.5 - 4.6 mph (touched 4.6 once a while)
Maximum speed with tester sitting at stern by motor (no current)
4.0 - 4.1mph
Effect of moving weight (me) forward to bow - increase speed
.5 to .6 mph

Average speed during test 3.1 mph (total distance/time)
Average speed sitting in bow 3.9 mph (speed over 1 mile)
Average speed sitting in stern 3.4 mph (speed over 1 mile)

Maximum speed after 1 hr of use at throttle position 5 while seated
at stern - 3.9 mph with ocassional spurts to 4.0 mph.

Total time to recharge battery after test 3.5 hours.

Conclusion:
Maximum sustainable speed with Minn Kota Endura 50 is
4.0 mph. Moving all weight to bow area made an effective
speed increase of 1/2 mph (to 4.5 mph). When racing you
should sit in bow of sailboat to maximize speed. Lift that stern!

Best
