Do you know the brand name, or make of the dinghy? If so, you might call the
manufacturer and ask them. Otherwise, look in inconspicuous places like under
seats and in the dagger board trunk etc. I was under the impression that hull
numbers are required to be actually molded into the transom and not merely
attached on a plate though.

I have a small dingy that doesn't require state registration. I got it
cheap for some family fun and intro to sailing. I'm pretty sure that
the primary HIN was on a plate that was removed before I got the boat
(you can see the rivet holes and lack of oxidation on the gel coat).
I've heard that there is a secondary HIN somewhere on the hull, but I
cannot find it! Any help out there?
