Mount the upper block at the masthead for use as a spinnaker halyard.
When the halyard is attached to the bow pulpit to assist in raising
the mast, leave it there. The spinnaker halyard then serves as a
"backup" headstay, eliminating one of the last
single-points-of-failure in the rig. The small additional windage is
usually negligible.
