Hi,

On one of my first sails in my P-19 I snagged a turnbuckle cotter ring
with a jib sheet and nearly pulled it loose. I made a mental note to
tape it next time. Then I remembered some advice that another Potter
owner had given me and decided to try it out. I ran right home and cut
four lenghts of white 3/4 inch PVC irrigation pipe (approx. 16" long)
and slipped them over my shrouds (of course I had to undo the
turnbuckles first). Now when I'm setting up I just pull the pipe
segments up while I tighten the turnbuckles. Then I wire the
turnbuckles in place and slide the pipes back down over the
turnbuckles. Not only does this protect the the pins and wire ends from
snagging, it also provides a nice smooth surface for the jib sheets to
slide over, protecting them from wearing against the shrouds and
turnbuckles.
