My #234 didn't have a notch, so I just left the hatch open and carried the
spars inside. They extend from the forward locker to just over the transom.
I carry the lateen rig the same way. It has two 14 ft spars and a 10 ft
mast. The neat canvas Sunfish spar bag I use for the lateen should work
for the gunter rig also, but I haven't tried it..

The only notch in my hatch is a small one just big enough for the
centerboard pendant. (Is that the right nomenclature?)
