P 15 slugs on main

After reading boom length etc. problems must ask if it is preferable to add
slugs to main. If yes, how far apart. IM told me 8 to 10 inches apart. I did
8 inches and seems not enough distance for the luff rope to fold readily so
the instant drop to a stop I had visualized didn't happen. Should I take
them off, leave 'em, or change the space between them? Owen Shaw hull#2216
