There are no such things as dumb questions, particularly if you are a
new owner!

Our experience is that we leave the centerboard down if we are using the
outboard to give more control and stability, particularly if the sails
are up. You might have missed the on-going saga of what happens when you
run into the jetty if you have just joined the list.

Also, it doesn't hurt if you come up with a way to keep motor and Potter
connected in the off chance that the weather or pilot error causes the
two to try to part company.
