I have owned a new P19 since last June 1998. I find the dgrbrd concept very
good as it allows lifting it off water while moored to my dock, keeping
barnacles and other growth off it. I also find it easy to lower and raise.
Great for trailering! I sail about once a week in a short canal ( 3/4 mile)
and ocean about once every 7 weeks. In canal i do not bolt dgrbrd down as
when tide is low i can run aground and have (2x while picking up a neighbor
at his shallow dock.). Being able to crank that sucker up is great. In
ocean I keep it bolted down.

At first it's a bitch getting used to coming from a fixed keel sailboat with
no trunk. But after about the 5th time of using you get used to it. By the
8th sail it no longer bothers you as the convenience way outweights all its
drawbacks. You become adept at getting around it...
