Additional information that I need to mention -
Jerry's backstay kit eliminated the mast pumping that I'd witnessed
previously when broad reaching. The rig seemed much steadier in gusts.
Didn't sail to windward at all that day, so I can't comment on improved
jib shape on that point of sail. I do need to tighten my shrouds though -
the leeward upper was visibly slack.
For those who plan to add the backstay kit, I advise you to use low-stretch
line when measuring the distance for the wire. I did not, and wound up
using two turnbuckles to compensate for my short wire.
Even though I brought the digital camera, I forgot to take the promised
pictures of my solar panel setup. I'll try again this weekend.
