I use a 3.0 hp Johnson 2 cylinder, 1996 model on P15, S/N 2201 and this is
overkill. The bow rises about half a foot at full throttle with a GPS speed
of 5.1 knots (over hull speed). I need the power though because I am on the
Housatonic River in Connecticut and currents run 3.1 knots. I get enough
wake so I have to slow down passing marinas. Believe me, 3.0 hp is all you
need, and perhaps 2.0 hp should be enough unless you have strong currents
like I do. I also installed the fuel pump modification kit with the 2 way
valve and with the 6.0 gallon tank sitting in the cockpit, I run 9.25 hours
at full throttle on just the 6 gallons which is a range of about 50 statute
miles.
