sailing downwind in high winds with nasty following seas can be a real
challenge. On my Big Potter I have my burgee mounted to the backstay, not
only does it look good there, but it shows me exactly where the wind is
coming from. I also keep the vang tight on a run to keep the boom down just
in case. One other thing, I drilled a cross hole through a pintle and use a
hitch pin to keep the rudder on the boat. If you hit a log or something your
rudder could bounce off and you would be in deep doo doo. When I sail upwind
I am usually drinking beer and listening to good music, but downwind I focus
on sailing!
