I believe this is one of those occasions that it is important to remember
that the P-15 and the P-19 are totally different craft. I do not think it is
possible to tighten the stays on the P-15 with hand power enough to crack the
toerail. I use my jib halyard, attached to the bow pulpit in order to get
enough leverage to attach the forestay and come nowhere near putting too much
tension on the stays. You do need to tighten them as much as possible. The
hardware that comes with the boat, with the pin through little holes, works
fine once you get it adjusted. You will probably not have to readjust it for
years.
