This has been a concern of mine for the last three years.

Since I have only one trailer for 3 boats I do following:

I sink the 13' Sovereign with blocks on top in canal. Very little damage once
under water. As wind blows over it and only worry is up and down tide.

I trailer my P19 outta town as I am in a flood area and get evacuated.

I leave my Sunbird 20 on lift in backyard tying it down with 1/2 poly
propylene lines to neighbors dock and put 2 straps around boat and lifting
arms.

After that all you can do is hope the insurance dude will be gracious picking
up the pieces... Or AOL splits a couple more times...

My understanding from news etc is that you must either place trailer on
blocks off wheels or remove wheels. Also I've heard you should dig a hole
for trailer wheels so it sits with axle touching ground. I think hole is to
keep trailer from rolling away. They recommend several straps around boat
and trailer be tied to a tree or several big anchors. The "gist" of it is to
get boat close to ground and keep trailer from rolling. Boat US says boats on
trailers do better than boats on water. They may have hurricane preparedness
info on their website...

<< Now that hurricane season is upon us, I was wondering
how folks prepare the boat parked in the backyard when
a storm is headed in. Do you tie it down with anchors
like a mobile home? How do you protect it from
overhanging limbs (they cover almost all of our
backyard)? Thanks for your input.
