Rob, You might want to rake the mast back a little, this will give you
more weather helm. I have my HMS 18 balanced so close hauled in 12 knots of
wind I can take my hand off the tiller and she will hold her heading. Also if
you sheet the jibsheet inside the shrouds a P.19 will point just as good, or
better than a Catalina22. Last year we were out is SF Bay When we ran into a
friend in his NEW Catalina 28 MK 2, he couldn't outpoint us or catch us. Of
corse the wind and chop were perfect, and I asked my wife to go lie down in
the V berth for a while.
As the big boats heel they reduce sail area, this is where Potters come
alive. A P.19 sailing at a 15 degree angle will lift half the hull out of the
water. Also with weight foreword you will get a clean break at the transom,
and she will really go!
