When alone, I like to motor out to a spot where I can hoist the main and
then head off on a beam reach on a port tack. I then tie off the tiller,
(with my stern line) shut down and lift the motor clear of the water, and
then (with it's sheets loose) hoist the jib. Part of the trick here is to
have the main sheet slacked enough so the sail is luffing a bit.

I guess I should add that running the lines aft is a given in this scenario,
although I have watched other, more experienced sailors, do the same
maneuver with the standard factory rig.
