Bitter experience tells me that the problem with gas is almost always
the water in it. This is true even when there is no obvious way for
water to have gotten into the tank: no leaks, no large temperature
excursions, etc, etc.

One way to find out for sure is to decant some of the discarded gas
into a clear glass container and leave it alone for awhile. The water
will settle out.
