Oxygen, specifically. There's an article in today's paper about Robert
Ballard discovering some 2500+year-old Phoenician merchant vessels in the
Mediterranean and they are almost perfectly preserved because of the
depth.

There are forests submerged in Lake Tahoe that are said to be more than 1,000
years old. These make for interesting Scuba diving. It also shows that some
time ago the Lake was much smaller than it is today. Even the bark on the
trees is in tact. The trees, for the most part, are not standing but laying
stacked upon one another.

I guess that goes to show that if you sink your boat it'll last a lot longer.
That cannot be said for your outboard.
