Alan, The new P.15's are a fine little yacht, and in many ways they are
better than the old ones. The new boats have heavier standing rigging, and a
galvanized keel, and a galvanized trailer. I still feel they are the best
value in boating today. The early boats had wood centerboard trunks that
would rot, or leak, or both. My favorite P.15's were built around 1976,
around hull # 690. These boats had hull mounted chainplates, plywood glassed
into the bottom for stiffness, and galvanized keels. Also the C.B. trunks
were built in a separate mold, and were bulletproof. Around 1977 the company
changed hands and there were some quality problems, but nothing too serious.
I would have no problems sailing a new P.15 anywhere I have sailed my 1974
model, and that includes out the Golden Gate.
