Hi Harry,

As you know, I've been making plans to setup a Junkrig on Frodo. Over the
weekend a friend made me a real deal on an older Sunfish whose sail and mast are
still serviceable, but the hull is questionable. While I still plan to do the
junkrig eventually, the Lateen sail and mast from the Sunfish will allow me to
get the boat into the water much sooner, from an economics standpoint.

Considering the above, I've got a few questions for you about how you setup your
Lateen Rig. Realizing that our cabin and deck arrangement is considerably
different, I think I can still get some useful information from the way you did
yours.

1) What is the distance from the bow of the boat to the center of the hole for
your mast step?

This info should help me with placement for my mast step. My cabin top doesn't
extend nearly as far forward, so I suspect that I'll have to place my mast step
through the deck.

2) Where did you place your mainsheet swivel block in relation to the cockpit?

As I've studied this matter, I've concluded that it could be located on the
traveller bridle, on the cabintop or on the cockpit floor. I really don't like
having things clutter up my cockpit, so I'd prefer one of the other solutions.
What are your thoughts?

3) Since we've previously discussed the re-enforcement of the cabintop and
maststep I'll dismiss that for now. I've got some ideas that should work so
that I can later use either the junk mast or the lateen mast in the same mast
partner at the deck level. The crucial point is the location of the center of
effort (CE) in relation to the center of lateral resistence (CLR) of the boat.
Since the Potter has the intergrated skegs I'm not sure if the CLR of a Potter
can be measured using the same approach for standard centerboard hulls.

I'd appreciate any other insights you might have to offer.

Thanks,

Perry
