Hi, and welcome to the Potter fraternity! We have a
Mercury 5 on our P19, and have been pleased with how
it has handled the currents here in Charleston. Some
people prefer the new 4 stroke outboards - they are
easier to maintain and more reliable than the 2
strokes, but are heavier and more expensive. If I had
it to do over again, I might consider an outboard with
the capability of recharging the battery while
motoring. Remember that many Potter owners do not
trailer with the motor attached, for fear of cracking
the transom of the boat.
