I spent a little time browsing through the archives on the Trailer sailor
web site. I ran across a lot of Potter bashing. Naturally, the people that
are bashing these boats have never sailed one. For years the little potter
has been the subject of snide remarks among the yachting community. However,
while these "Sailing Experts" were in the Yacht Clubs with their martini's I
was out sailing my Potter. The more I sailed the faster my Potter became.
Soon I found out I could give the big guys a run for the money with my P.14.
One day I was about to pass a 27 footer, just as I got close the big boat
started gaining speed and pulled away. Had he made some secret sail
adjustment? No, he started his engine. These guys just can't stand being
passed by a Potter. Our boats are gaining a little respect in some of the
Yacht Clubs because they have seen Potters out sailing in conditions they
wouldn't dare venture out in.
I think my next step is to purchase a video camera to film the big boats
as I pass them. With a little practice snd skill these little boats will
really zip along.
