They aren't. But most passenger cars don't spend much time submerged. I do a
lot of serious 4x4 adventuring, and frequent front wheel bearing repacks are
a way of life for us if we've gotten in deep mud or something. I wish we had
bearing buddies! A lot of front end brake service packages include front
wheel bearing repacks.

nope, perfectly reasonable questions. Bearing Buddies or similar are your
best insurance, but its a good idea to repack from time to time. which
reminds me, I'm way overdue...
