Hi Scott:
An interesting puzzle for a rainy work-day afternoon. Most tiller self
steering units (Navico, AutoHelm and TillerMaster) attach to the boat by a
pin that fits into an oarlock fitting, which could be mounted in a variety
of locations, not necessarily on the same side. But they only need 2 pins
for electrical power. I would guess that you have already crawled headfirst
into quarter berth on your back with a flashlight to see where the wires
attached to the plug go, and were unable to trace them back to either the
distribution panel or to the spot where the stereo was mounted before the
previous owner removed it. I have seen plugs similar to the one you
describe used on a variety of things, such as temporary running lights,
spotlights, etc. If you can find the wires, their size and color might lead
you to a solution. Or you turn on everything at the panel, and stick
voltmeter probes in the holes to see if they are in fact electrically live.
If so, then turn off circuits one at a time until you find the correct one.
Then label the plug 12V Utility Outlet, modify a 12V blender male plug to
fit, and sail happily .
