Tsk, tsk, Geoff. I've told you before (grin), Redwing ain't gonna come even
close to winning a prize for the most customized P19. I keep trying to
downplay all the hype about Redwing, because it's going to be anticlimactic
when you finally see her. She's got very few "gadgets" or creature comforts
- but she is danged pretty for an old boat and she's rigged to take anything
that SF Bay can dish out (She can take more than her skipper can, that's for
sure!)

But, if you're passing out a prize for the "Most Improved Former Ugly
Duckling" or "Labor of Love" or "Shippiest Way To Do Things" -- then Redwing
might win! Are you going to have a category for that? I'll bring some
before and after pictures to the Tahoe trip so you all can see how far she's
come!

The only notable customizations are the tracks on the cabintop, the new
"custom" sails (made by UK Sailmakers, not the factory), and (if I can get
one more done) the oak interior-cabinet doors. I have a pile of hardware
(clutches and deck organizers) to install on the cabintop for leading lines
aft, but, again, I don't know if I can find the time before winter to install
any of it.

Redwing new stuff:

smooth, faired bottom (Redwing's secret speed weapon #1),
new mahogany-colored tanbark and white sails from UK Sails (Redwing's
"secret" speed weapon #2),
no extra weight from accumulated stuff (like Jerry B's extra ballast in the
form of 150 cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew -- Sorry Jerry, couldn't resist!),
new gelcoat inside the cabin and on the bottom,
re-glassed and reinforced keeltrunk,
re-glassed bilge (sealed permanently watertight - the only way water's
getting in there is if she capsizes!),
Schaeffer tracks and adjustable cars on the cabintop,
a lot of new blocks and lines,
Norseman terminals on the stays,
new CDI,
new Ronstan "light keelboat" gooseneck,
new-used "custom" boom with inside-the boom 2:1 outhaul ( work-in-progress),
new winches (not installed yet),
new Nissan 5 hp 4-stroke,
new spring loaded motor mount (not installed yet),
new telescoping transom ladder (not installed yet),
new mat glass battery,
new handrails, new companionway door, refinished teak trim (even I get
good-looking wood with Armada!),
new "Saturn" bulkhead compass,
new Uniden depth finder (not installed yet),
new "Baja" style trailer with swing tongue (Caulkins 1999),
new cabin cushions (and they're too hard for comfortable sleeping!),
Nico solar vent fan to prevent mildew,
rebedded EVERYTHING with goop and new SS bolts (because everything leaked
when I got her!),

BUT:
no lights or wiring yet,
no water system (isn't the sink a great storage bin?),
ratty, cut-up headliner (gotta install all the cabintop hardware before I
replace it),
no graphics, racing stripe or name yet.

(*******Anybody know a good source for creative, artistic vinyl graphics?)

Skipper of the refurbished 1985 HMS P19,"Redwing", formerly owned by Bruce
Little (one of the most intrepid Potter skippers in the annals of Potterdom),
who lived aboard her for several years and who completed passages all up and
down the left coast from Washington state to Mexico. I don't think I'll ever
live up to her legacy -- I'm just not that daring
