Michele,
I have a P-19 and when I found the motor I wanted it turned out to be a
short-shaft (duh!) Just the opposite of what I needed. I have an adjustable
motor mount on my boat, but the mount itself kept the motor from submerging
into the water far enough to get the fresh water flow and I wound up
burning up the impeller. What I did was glued up a new block that was
smaller height wise.
It works OK, but it was a compromise. Now I can get the motor in the water
far enough, but if I have to much weight in the front I have to extend it
as far as it will go and then I lose steerage with the motor and must
depend on the rudder only. The other thing is when I pull it up out of the
water I can't tilt the motor since it will hit the transom, but it does
come completely out when raised. I don't know if that helps, but it works
for me (until I get a long-shaft motor anyway).
