Fellow Potterers:
Herewith tendered is my "review" of "The Lakes of New Mexico: A Guide
to Recreation" by Andy Sandersier, Univ. of New Mexico Press
(505/277-2346), 354 pp, 1996, $24.95+ s&h

Bottom line, get-to-the-point synopsis =
If you're interested in every possible fishing "lake" (>/= 1 acre)
across NM, it's an excellent source. Really.
If you're only interested in the larger (4k-40k acres) lakes for
fishing and sailing, write NM State Parks for free info that's just as
useful. Spend the $30 on a surprise for your spouse. Better return on
your money.

Details about book =
a) 151 "lakes" from 1 to 40,000 acres surface
b) 16 lakes >1000 acres, all w/ramps and camping
c) 6 LAKES >5000 acres, all w/ramps and state parks
d) 3 largest are Elephant Butte (40k), Conchas and Navajo
(16k ea)
e) All 151 w/tabulated details (60 items) ranging from bait to
tennis courts to showers to emergency phone numbers to
sewer hook-ups
f) Organized geographically by regions and vicinities (nearby
towns)
g) Interesting historical tidbits on each vicinity
h) Driving directions are clear and detailed w/stylized maps
i) B&W photo of almost all 151
j) Especially good fishing and camping info

Hoping this is of value, Lin

PS: After reading "Lakes of New Mexico", I think I'll write "Succulents
of Alaska".
