I don't care what they say, the happiest day of a boaters life IS NOT =
the day they sell their boat!

Happy Camper has sailed off into the sunset, or actually the sunrise as =
she went east to Sacramento with Jay and Bonnie yesterday. After going =
through the paperwork we took her over to Richmond for a training sail =
for them, and a last sail for me. After taking an hour+ to rig her, =
Happy Camper was in the water ready to go around 2PM. By that time the =
wind was up to around 20 knots so I elected to put a reef in the main =
and leave the jib down until they got the feel for her. We tacked back =
and forth inside the marina for about two hours, eventually raising the =
jib and getting HC up to hull speed (even though we left the motor =
down!) and then it was time to haul her out and for me to say goodbye to =
her. It brings tears to my eyes just typing this.

Having been on this list from almost the first day, I feel some of you =
might wonder why I would sell my Potter so here is my feeble attempt to =
explain (also to myself). =20

I loved my Potter....that is all I can say about that! I admit, like =
all good relationships,it had it's ups and downs, but in the end selling =
her did not come down to me wanting to get rid of her. In truth, it =
was more me being dissatisfied with myself then with my Potter that made =
me put her up for sale. I was not able to overcome my fear of getting =
caught out in conditions that I couldn't handle. This caused me to miss =
outings with the club that I really wanted to attend, which made me =
feel worse. In the end, the more that I heard all of the wonderful =
things that the rest of you were doing just caused me to become more =
depressed, so the only answer I could come up with to find a good home =
for her. =20

For my friends in the Potter Yachters, no, I'm not leaving. I plan on =
hooking up with the club on some of your outings (we are planning to =
rent a delta destroyer for the Stockton sail next year), and want to =
eventually pick up a 15 to use at the local lakes and other protected =
waters. Also, I am trying to retire next year and we are looking for a =
house to buy, so we are going to be too busy (and poor) to be "yachters" =
for a while.=20

So, without getting too personal, that's the reason Happy Camper is no =
more (she is going to go through a name change), and why she is no =
longer is a part of our family. =20
