Hi Jeff!

When I anchor, I go below and get the bucket with the anchor and rode, sit
in the cockpit, throw it in and get the depth/scope etc. right. When the
anchor is set I hitch it on the cleat it's already around. I've done this
from the cockpit and also from the bow. I usually sit with my bottom up
against the mast more or less, keeping my weight centered side to side and
not too close to the bow. I also will use a "tripod" stance while working
on the foredeck: one knee down on deck.

The old adage: one hand for the boat! Hang on to something while you're up
there, or wrap an arm around the mast or the pulpit to steady yourself. I
know you've had a bad experience with your boat so perhaps you're feeling
a little shy but I want to encourage you to get bac "in the water" and try
your hand at being on the foredeck again. Maybe do it with someone in the
cockpit, sitting back towards the stern, weight centered. I am around 6'1"
and close to 200 pounds and I do feel secure on the foredeck. Try to keep
your weight low also. But having another person on board aft will help
keep the boat stable....good luck!
