I have a Mercury 4 HP on my P-19. It's also a short shaft (couldn't find a
long shaft when I needed one). Saturday I finally made it to Lake Michigan
for a daysail. By the time the rain quit and we got out on the lake it was
late in the day. A few hours later my brother got seasick in the mounting
seas (they climed to somewhere around 6-8 ft I think...anyway they were
coming at us higher than my boom). I finally had to motor in as we were
beating into a pretty stiff breeze and weren't making good time which was
needed for my brothers sake. The little Merc did a great job. The skeg only
came out of the water now and then (very little actually considering the
choppiness) and we were able to make about 4 miles per hour. The 4 HP will
push a P-19 as fast as you could want in normal conditions and almost as
fast as you want in deteriorating weather :-)
