I have a small strap on the forward face of the cabintop, close to the
deck, and a bullet fairlead on top at the forward edge of the cabintop.
That keeps the line from wearing a groove in the edge. I have a cleat on
the cabintop near the cockpit. (Since I don't have a sliding hatch in the
cabintop, I have lots of room to mount things there.) The jib can launch
itself back up the stay when you head into the wind if the downhaul is not
secured.

At first I tied the downhaul to the grommet at the peak of the jib, but
pulling the line folded the peak end down and caused the top hank to jam.
So the line had to be tied to the top hank.
