Guys, I don't think we're gonna get anywhere comparing one automatic to
another. In most cases we're towing far below the manufacturer's rated
towing capacity anyways. The main reason for staying out of overdrive is
excessive shifting which generates a lot of heat, and some trannys won't
lock up in third gear (locked up converters generate far less heat than
unlocked) unless overdrive is off. If it really bothers you, install a cheap
tranmission temperature gauge and do some experiments. For me, I tow in
overdrive on the straightaways when I can pull without a lot of shifting,
and kick overdrive off on the passes.
