Mine doesn't leak much either except when I slam across a big wake or
other waves. Typically a few sponges full just as Ted says. I suspect
that the non-river sailers may experience much rougher water and hence
more leakage thru the top of the trunk.

I think Jerry or one of the old timers will bear me out on this: The
boat started out as an 18 and then for marketing purposes they started
to include the motor mount in the overall measurement. My boat is an 18
for tax and mooring purposes, but if I ever decide to sell it, it will
be as a 19.

I dropped the mast yesterday and made the final changes on my Barton
Furler installation. The furler installation is just behind the
forestay so I can take the foresail down and change to one of my non
furling sails in the usual way. It's kind of neat and I think I stayed
under my budgeted $110 for the whole deal. I had to add a chainplate
just behind the place where the forestay attaches to give clearance for
the furler and did some kind of clever work with a turnbuckle inside of
the chain/anchor locker to keep the chainplate from pulling the deck up
-- essentially the turnbuckle attaches to the bottom of the chainplate
and then hooks to one of the bolts on the eye on the bow thats used for
pulling the boat back on to the trailer. I'll take some pictures and
post 'em on my cheezy little web site.
