I'm with you I don't think the 3/4 inch drain would be sufficient. I've had
my cockpit about half full (safely on shore) and it took a good 5 minutes to
drain. A full cockpit would probably take more then 10 minutes...surely
enough for the next wave set...and you'd already be in serious trouble.

One reference I have "OCeanography adn Seamanship" suggust the drain be at
least 0.1 inches squares per square foot of cockpit area for a 5 minute
drain. The P-19 (I've measured my P-19 "Cantrip") is roughly 5 1/2 by 4 feet
or 22 ft sq.. Double check my math by that's roughly one 1 1/2 in Inner
Diameter drain. Your double 1 1/4 drain should emplty the cockpit in less
then five minutes.

As for crossing I think the main advantage is the keep the water out in a
seaway. The Potter is so high and bouyant anyway that it would take a seaway
I'd rather not be in to wet your feet but on the other hand it might offer
survival.
