It sounds like your diagnosis is correct, but I just now
fixed it accidentally another way. I put a whole bottle of
STP in a half full tank, and after about 1/2 hour it began running
well again.

Thanks, next time I'll look at the carb jets directly.

Sounds like plugged jets. Remove the screw in the bottom of the
carb bowl and spray in some cleaner.
