Where do folks have those "cigarette lighter" 12v recepticles? I'm
thinking that four inside the
cabin for two cell phones (Dave and I each must carry ours), one
handheld GPS at night with the
anchor alarm set, and one spare will be plenty inside the cabin. We'll
also want one outside
somewhere in the cockpit, for the GPS or a hand-held search light.
Where in the cockpit is the
best location for a 12v recepticle?
I put mine below the electrical panel for ease of wiring. Keep wiring
away from the compass. Note that "doublers" and extension cords are
widely available, so you don't need to install a separate receptical for
each device. No place inside the cabin will be very far from the outlet
wherever you put it!
I plug my gps into the outlet inside the cabin and run its cord through
the hatch, even though I installed an outlet in the cockpit. I wouldn't
put one in the cockpit were I to do it again. They don't take kindly to
exposure. The gps hangs on the bulkhead anyway.

On a related note, consider flashlite battery power for some of the
stuff like a cockpit light. Four penlight cells ran my little radio all
summer.
