Not only is poor sailing expected, but most of the competition takes place
in the boardrooms and courtrooms. ESPN got all huffy when one of the
syndicates got Fox Sports (one of ESPN's biggest competitors) to be a major
sponsor. It seems the guys at ESPN didn't like the prospect of a bright hull
or a huge spinnaker emblazoned with FOX SPORTS flashing across the world's
TV sets. I'm sure they had nightmares of said boat actually WINNING the
America's Cup. So what did they do? They told everyone that they can't have
one of their major competitors as a sponsor. If they do so, then they (ESPN)
will pull out of covering the event. Court battles and behind the scenes
threats were made, and the syndicate finally had to say no to Fox Sports and
their $10 million sponsorship. It just goes to show what happens when you
concentrate wealth and power in the hands of the few....

Well, As a skipper.. new to sailing.. I dont mind looking or
sounding dumb. I
figured asking stupid questions would at least in part explain why I
sail so
poorly!! But , what the heck...after the last America's cup.. isnt
poor
sailing expected?? lol <ducking my head, and looking out for a
sucker
punch>
Dont be shy!
