Thanks for an excellent answer as well. It turns out I'm quite familiar
with outhaul and downhaul, I just never knew what they were called.

On my P-19 I have a line attached to the bottom of the boom at the
gooseneck and a cleat at the foot of the mast. From what I understand, this
is a sort of cunningham I think. After raising the main I pull the line
tight, "lowering the boom" so to speak.

Is there a better way of doing this? Should I incorporate a downhaul in
place of the cunningham?
