Greetings, Rod:
My 95 P-19 has closed turnbuckles. An easy way to lock them at the desired
setting is to run a single piece of lockwire through the small hole in the
center body of each shroud turnbuckle and twist the ends together to secure.
That way the center bodies can't turn and loosen under vibration, and the
lockwire is easy to remove if desired. When removing the mast, disconnect
from the upper turnbuckle fitting and leave the connected turnbuckles
attached to the boat for easier re-rigging.
As for the forestay, you are seeking a C.S. Johnson shroud adjustment
lever. I think it should be a standard piece of rigging on Potters. Get
the smaller of the two sizes offered. Installation will require shortening
the forestay.
Also, may I suggest that after you have cut off the old thimble, but before
you replace it, slide a "bobble" on the wire. This is a small round plastic
ball with a hole through it. The bobble slides down on top of the terminal
fitting and allows you to push the shroud into position for attachment more
comfortably
Hope this helps,

Judy and all,
Thanks for the rigging info. I have been playing with the rigging and
the info was timely. A couple of questions, does anybody have the
closed body turnbuckles on a 19? Mine had them when I bought it (used)
and when I ordered a couple of replacements IM sent open bodies. I just
curious if the previous owner changed this or if it was standard.
The other thing is that I never feel like I have the forestay tight
enough as it still bends (bows?) a fair amount while at almost any point
of sail. I push on the mast while my wife fastens it as tight as we can
get it. Tightening the shrouds does not seem to be a quick solution as
they get way too tight. Is there an easily adjustable forestay "thingy"
(preferably with a lever/adjustment) which works well for a 19 which
would allow ease of setting up as well as tightening? I have seen some
in the West Marine cat. but do not know if they are what I am really
after.
