My P19 is in water full time. since my motor has an alternator, I ran a
number 12 wire from a cigarette (cig) lighter socket located in cockpit
slightly right of keel winch crank to a series 29hdp, 1000 CCA, 125AMP
battery located under V in forward berths. I have a sear's 6 amp battery
charger to which I have replaced battery charger hooks with a cigarette
lighter plug. I also installed a cig lighter plug to batt charging end
(alternator) of motor.

When it's time to charge battery I plug charger cig lighter plug into boat
cig lighter socket (in cockpit by keel winch crank) and wait for it to charge
batteries. While cruising with motor I plug the motor's cig lighter plug
(alternator) to cockpit cig lighter socket. In a bind if i need a fog lamp I
also plug it into this socket.

I check battery water level once every 4 months thru an access hole to right
of battery on berth. I use a turkey baster to put water in it.

Works OK.

Hi All,

On my P-19 I have a marine 12V that supplies power for various
peripherals.
I store the boat on trailer at a marina yard, and don't have any way to
charge the sucker, except removing it from the boat and carting it home.
Soo, my plan is to minimize the number of times I do this in a season by
installing some form of battery monitor that can keep track of the
battery's state. I have seen one such series of products from Heart
Interface, these track volts, amps, amp-hours and time remaining. How
have
other people solved this problem? Alternatives to carting a heavy
battery
around are enthusiastically solicited (lugging my Honda 5hp is enough)
:-)
Thanks!

I hooked up a solar battery charger and kept the boat at a mooring all
summer. Battery didn't need any additional charge. Note that I used the
Minikota trolling motor occasionally, as well as lights, fishfinder and
gps.
http://www.jademountain.com/carchargerspv.html has info on a Power-Pulse
device that is supposed to remove sulphation from batteries. I'll let
you know how it works.
