Scott,

I asked State Farm about my boat. They took the information and came back
with what I thought was a reasonable quote. A gave them the money and had
the policy show up 5 week later with a bill for an amount several times the
agreed upon rate. I asked my local agent and she said that she quoted me a
price for an "outboard" and not a sailboat. Even though I was very explicit
that it was a sailboat and they had pictures of it. She was put off that I
used the word "outboard" to describe the engine type (which is - an
outboard). I asked to cancel the policy and asked for my original payment
back. State Farm baled and said that they had insured the boat for those 5
weeks and after prorating the higher rate I was not entitled to a full
refund.

So... When you deal with folks who do not usually insure boats, treat them
as idiots when it comes to explaining exactly what you have and what you
want to insure against.
