Greetings,

The Potter Yachters are very pleased to be hosting the 1st Annual "SCA
Cruiser Challenge" on Nov 6-7 on the Oakland Estuary in Alameda California.
SCA (Small Craft Advisor) is a new magazine about sailboats under 25 feet.
We're very excited to have this event taking place on our last club sail of
the 1999 season.

The Potter club cordially invites skippers of all types of small boats to
join in the cruising fun. You don't have to race to participate. This weekend
will be something very special, for those who come just to day sail as well
as those who come to race. There will be prizes, raffles, and discounts from
merchants in the Alameda Marina. Many folks will be daysailing and staying
over on Saturday night at the Alameda marina. Dinner at Chevy's at Jack
London Square on the Estuary is planned for Saturday night.

Making new friends -- that's what this is all about. The Potter Yachters
are sponsoring this race so we can get to know the skippers of the Potters,
Montgomeries, and Compacs and make new friends. It's going to be a real
race, but, hey, we're cruisers, not racers, we hope everyone will relax and
just have a good time.

The Cruiser Challenge will consists of two parts -- first, a race for
Potters, Monty's and Compacs and, secondly, a "sea-trial" type evaluation of
each of the boats for the readers of SCA.

The Cruiser Challenge will have two divisions:
A. Potter 19's, Montgomery 17's and Compac19's
B. Potter 14/15's, Mongomery 15's and Compac 16's

The Skipper's meeting will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, Nov 6th, and the race will
start at 2:00 pm. The course will be approximately 2-3 miles total,
consisting of upwind and downwind legs. Depending on the weather, the race
will consist of either one or two laps around the course.

No spinnakers will be permitted, since few boats have them and that would
constitute an unfair advantage. The largest headsail permitted will be a
155% genoa.

Prizes for the winners have been donated by International Marine, builder of
the Potter, and by SCA, which is co-sponsoring the event in conjunction with
the Potter Yachters.

Sunday, SCA writers and photographers will spend the day sailing with the
best skippers who sailed in the race. The skippers and boats will be featured
in future feature articles about the boats.

PLEASE RSVP TO JUDY BLUMHORST IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND, WHETHER YOU WILL BE
RACING OR NOT. JBLUMHORST@AOL.COM

On Saturday and Sunday, staff from SCA will be interviewing Compac, Potter
and Montgomery skippers to gather information for future feature articles on
these famous mini-cruisers. This is a chance to get you and your boat
mentioned in the magazine, even if you don't race.

There will be goodies for all registered participants, you don't have to
race!!

SCA is donating T-shirts and subscriptions to the magazine for a raffle on
Saturday. Just be sure to register to let us know you're there and to get
your raffle ticket.

And More....Svendsen's Boatyard at Alameda is offering a 10% discount on all
puchases through the end of November to all registered participants of the
Potter Cruise and the SCA Cruiser Challenge. Svendsen's has an enormous
selection of sailing gear at very competitive prices. You can find things
at Sven's that you can't find anywhere else. They also can offer sound,
expert advice on almost any question about sailing equipment and gear.

You don't have to race to get the discount, but you must register with the
event organizers to receive a card entitling you the discount.

Additional details and driving directions will be posted on the Potter
Yachters Website soon. See <A HREF="http://www.potter-yachters.org/">The
