Keith the matting you have seen is called "dri-deck" , and comes in
sections easily sized to the place you want to cover.. West Marine
Products
sells it, and you can see it in their catalog. The reason it may be
prefered
to carpet in boats, is less problem with mildew, good non-skid properties,

and perhaps better protection from grinding dirt into, and scratching gel-

coat . You can lift it and mop out faster than carpet, and if only a
little
water gets in, matting holds stuff up out of the water more than carpet.
