If they try and sting you for a water pump on your 2hp
Honda, you are dealing
with a dishonest or incompentent shop - The 2 hp Honda is
air cooled.

The manufacturers web page describes the unit as having
"maintenance free"
electronic ignition. My guess is that a new spark plug and
fresh oil (both
the engine and lower end have oil reservoirs on a four
stroke) should put the
unit right for next year.

$150 sounds way out of line for a service - isn't that about
25% of the price
of a new outboard?

Well, there is a jet of water squirting out when it's
running. It has to be water cooled. This is a 4-cycle model. I believe it
is an '89, and the previous owner stated that it had been "dropped", and was
just "a gift". It may not have ever had maintenance of any kind.

$150 sounds way out of line indeed. The guys I talked to
definitely had a dishonest air about them. Does anyone know of a
do-it-yourself manual I could buy? How I dislike fooling around with motors
on a sailboat.

Just came back from a really good sail. Time to go home now
and put some lotion on my windburned face...
