Well,
I did it! I decommissioned my cover (the wind tore it to shreds) raised
my mast and decorated with lights. It turned out great!!! some of the
neighbors have contacted me and all of them think it looks fabulous!

Incidentally, I plan to keep the three mast strands and deploy them summers
evenings this coming season when I anchor up--just for fun. I have a 115v
inverter on board which should do the trick fine off my onboard battery.
The way I did this was to connect the three strands into a screw chainlink
I have rigged off the top off the backstay at the top of the mast (I use
this for raising flags and windsocks), then once it was raised and secured,
I attached the low ends of the 3 strands to the bow, stern and mast foot.
