That said, if I was ordering a new P-15 from IM, it wouldn't have a pulpit. I
think the boat would look better without it. The only really useful thing it
does for me is provide a point to tie the mast to for trailering. I also hang
my anchor from it sometimes. but that could go elsewhere. At 200 lbs., if I
was to go far enough forward to actually grip the pulpit, I think the stern
of the boat would be airborne. What really pisses me off about the pulpit is
that rear hatch on my Vanagon collides with it at about the halfway open
point. I have some little dents in the hatch to remind me of that now, yet I
manage to forget again and again - you get the picture......

I too have been thinking about adding a bow pulpit to my boat.....something
to hang on to when out on the small fore deck. This summer I did see [
and talked with ] a chap who converted an old steel Navy lifeboat into a
small power cruiser and he made conduit rails. It looked "ok " but
definitely homemade....but not bad.
_ My_ question is more as to how does one mount an add-on bow pulpit to the
deck? Needless to say one does not want to lean on it and it breaks
loose and both you and the pulpit go for a swim ! . A ___ strong__
properly backed mounting [ including strengthening the deck itself ] might
be in order ???
