As i wrote off-list to Mike, Don Street in "The Ocean Sailing Yacht" advises
installing the oarlocks eleven inches from the aft end of the seat, which is
what I did. Even there, my knuckles tend to hit the tiller when rowing
vigorously. With the oars farther aft, you'd probably row standing up and
facing forward.
