Hi Brent,

Do you have a Micro?, if so I would love to hear more.

Thanks to everyone for advice and comments. I think the best advice was to
buy something cheap and plastic and go sailing straight away, then decide
whether I want to build

Just in case any one was wondering I would not venture out in the
conditions I mentioned, it' s just that I would like that amount of reserve
capability, on say a six hour passage it is difficult to know what to
expect at the end of it even with modern weather forecasting. As for the
tides, as I am sure everyone who sails in tidal waters knows, the trick is
to use the tide tables and time your sail so that you and the tide want to
go in the same direction.<s>.

Brian,
If you haven't already, check out the Micro page at
www.boatdesign.com I am a micro as well. My only concern was how to make
such a heavy boat un-sinkable.
