My tiller tamer is decidedly low-tech. It is a
plastic fitting screwed to the underside of the
tiller. You pass a line from the cleat on one side of
the cockpit, through the tiller tamer, and fasten it
to the other cleat on the other side of the cockpit.
When you get the angle you want for the tiller, just
screw down the tiller tamer, and it will clamp shut on
the line, holding the tiller fast. It works OK, but
you must watch it, because sometimes people moving
around the boat will change the boat's angle to the
wind slightly, and it is then easy to veer off course,
with a dangerous gybe possible.
