I use a WalMart Everstart series 29 battery that remains perpetually on my
13' Sovereign. It is about 3 yrs old as is the MK Endura 50. I never remove
the battery. I just check the water level in it/charge it in place and then
cover it up..

The series 29 battery is rated at 210 mins reserve capacity and gets me going
at modest speed ( 4.4 MPH - flat out!) for about 2 hours then it slows down
to 3 MPH for another hour and 2 MPH for about 2 more hours. Then it's time
to put out the oars and row..

<< Geoff,
 I have a 30lb thrust minn-Kota electric, but batteries are such a
pain--heavy, and they wear down so quickly it seems--short range, plus
expensive to replace every couple of years... I have thought about putting
my 1500w portable generator aboard the dinghy to power my electric motor
and/or recharge the battery at the same time.... interesting thought eh?

Kind of reminds me of that new electric/gas hybrid Honda Car that gets
 61/70 mpg!
